3D2N Melaka Getaway - Day 3

We started our 3rd day early again, with the intention to check out an old school Tea House, Low Yong Moh Restaurant 荣茂茶室, in the Chinatown area. A short 5-6mins stroll from our hotel, the Melaka Chinatown was a peaceful sight on a Sunday morning.

We arrived at the Tea house at about 8.45am just in time to grab one of the last empty tables available for morning tea. The tea house was bustling with activity on the otherwise quiet street. We were seated immediately and ordered tea and a few dim sum items to kick start breakfast.

Arrays of pipping hot dim sum items were presented to us on large trays. The servers came regularly with myriad of interesting looking items to feast the eyes.

After wolfing down over 20+ Dim Sum dishes, we were filled to the brim! The items we ordered were priced from RM2.40 to RM3.20 each, dirt cheap! However, cheap food usually means they don't taste so fantastic, please don't come here with expectation to taste restaurant standard Dim Sum. That being said, I highly recommend the Lo Mai Gai, Salted Egg custard buns and Century egg porridge, they are really cheap and good!

Post breakfast, we visited the Cheng Hoong Teng Temple 青雲亭廟 (UNESCO Heritage site), a stone's throw away from the tea house.

The 370yrs old temple had recently been refurbished, check out the incredible craftsmanship on the temple roofs and chinese paintings on the walls.

After the temple visit, we walked back towards the river and located the East & West Rendezvous to pick up our pre-ordered Rice dumplings. While we were there, we also bought a couple of boxes of freshly baked pineapple tarts to bring home.

Savory dumpling

On our way back, we noticed the long queue outside the Kedai Kopi Chung Wah, famous for their chicken rice balls, at 9.40am! Apparently Melaka people like eating chicken rice for breakfast...

This was our last day in Melaka, time to pack up and check out by 12pm. There is one last place we are going to try out before we leave town. So here we are, at our Lunch place, Tua Kor Wantan Mee 大姑雲吞麵, serving up old school wanton noodles.

The noodles here were very delicious! It has a long lost old school taste (古早味) that is springy, eggy and smooth, reminds me of the wanton noodles in SG back in the 70s-80s. The handmade wantons were pretty good too. We were glad that we found this hidden gem just before we left Melaka for home.

At 2.00pm, we proceeded to Casa Del Rio hotel for coach pick up and departed Melaka on time. Casa Del Rio looks really nice, we don't mind staying here if the prices aren't so steep!

Nice pool!

Oops, encountered peak hour traffic near the customs!

Long queues to catch SG-JB buses after clearing customs...

Even though there seems to be a lot of traffic but the real peak hour for buses and coaches hasn't started yet, we got through both customs pretty fast. By the time we dropped off at the SG Flyer, its only 6.30pm. We then hopped on a cab at the Flyer's taxi stand and...Home sweet home!
