Lunch at 456 Modern Shanghai Cuisine 四五六新派滬菜

On the last day at Macau, we decided to splurge on a good quality meal at 456 Modern Shanghai Cuisine. I found this place via food blogger shootfirsteatlater. This restaurant is managed by Future Bright group who also owned the Edo Japanese fine dining restaurant at Venetian. It is conveniently located at the St. Mark's Sq at level 3.

The restaurant is tastefully decorated to exude a modern Shanghainese vibe. Seating at the entrance and front dining area are designed to be cozy and intimate with squarish tables for smaller dining parties. The more spacious internal dining room has a contemporary Chinese style decor with large round tables and custom designed chandeliers.

We ordered an uncommonly seen tea in SG, Sau Mei tea 壽眉茶 to go with our Chinese meal. This white tea has a refreshing taste and is a popular choice to have with dim sum in HK.

We ordered 3 dishes from the dim sum menu and another 3 from the ala carte menu. They are all superbly done!

上海小籠包(4pcs) MOP28, has ultra thin skin with chock full of savory broth and well marinated minced pork filling...perfectly executed.

XO醬炒腸粉 (Fried rice rolls in XO sauce) MOP38, a simple homecooked style dish that is mildly spicy and has lotsa wok hei. The rice rolls were delightfully smooth and chewy, nice!

A slightly more luxurious item in the dim sum menu, 魚翅灌湯餃 (Shark fin dumpling soup) MOP48 per serving. Needless to say, this was another well executed dish with flavorful broth and good quality ingredients as fillings.

東坡肉 with pigeon eggs MOP198, hubby and I were both singing praises after tasting this dish. The pork belly is so well stewed till its fatty part has a jelly-like texture and fully infused with the sweet marinate sauce..simply divine! The pigeon eggs were springy like fishballs...its like nothing we've eaten before.

Beancurd sheet w/ assorted mushrooms & ginko nuts MOP88, the skillful chef has managed to fried this till its got wok hei...not an easy feat as it is harder to infuse vegetables with wok hei, awesome dish.

Our carbo dish, a luscious Fried rice w/ Goose liver & dice chicken topped w/ tobiko roe MOP128. The serving portion was huge, good enough for 3-4pax to share. It was perfectly done as expected with strong wok hei and chewy texture...thumbs up.

We couldn't finish and had this packed for dinner later on our flight.

This meal really ended our trip on a high note. Food and service here is excellent, prices are leaning on the steep side cos of its higher end menu, but there is bargain to be found here. For those that doesn't have a deep pocket, go for the dim sum dishes, they are very affordable (for Singaporean standard). This exquisite meal cost about SGD108 in total, I would say its great value for money. This is definitely a not to be missed dining place for all visitors to Macau!
