Dinner at Antonio restaurant 安東尼奧葡國餐廳

For day 2 dinner, we are having authentic Portuguese cuisine at the award winning Antonio (Michelin stars for several years). I had made an advance booking with the restaurant via email, this tiny restaurant is full every day, all attempts to walk in will be rejected.

The restaurant is tucked away at a corner of a small alley, we recognized it by looking out for the myriad of awards on display at the entrance.

This place is manned by a group of Portuguese and Filipino waiting staffs, everybody here speaks english by default. The restaurant has an authentic Portuguese decor with pretty painted tiles lining the walls.

I liked the custom made tableware with the Antonio's signature on every one of them.

As the restaurant serves an international clientele, the menu is presented in 5 different languages. Prices are on the steep side, inline with its fine dining atmosphere.

Hubby ordered the House wine (red) MOP70, and it comes in a huge wine glass.

I had the Lemonade MOP50, which is rather sour even after pouring lotsa sugar syrup into it.

Having spotted this restaurant on a Taiwanese travel show 食尚玩家, we ordered 2 of the dishes featured on the show. The first, being a starter Roasted Homemade Portuguese sausage on flambé MOP140.

The chorizo sausage is very salty and chewy. I ate it with the bread to balance out the saltiness. Hmm, I still prefer the chinese lup cheong hehe.

For main course, we had the Assorted Seafood Stew “Antonio Style” in a Portuguese Copper Pot (2pax) MOP590. Fresh prawns, scallops, clams, mussels, a whole crab and boiled potatoes served in a traditional Portuguese copper pot.

The seafood was stewed in a tomato based broth which was full of flavor coming from the seafood. I liked most of the seafood accept for the crab. It isn't the Sri Lankan crab that I'm used to eating, I cannot fully appreciate this crab.

After having a big pot of seafood, we were feeling quite full already and didn't order any desserts. As we are getting ready to leave, one of the staffs appeared with a guitar and went around serenading the guests with Portuguese X'mas songs...nice.

Overall dining experience is quite pleasant here, staffs are attentive and polite and food quality was pretty good. But we feel that for this kind of prices, we won't be returning anytime soon. There are many other eateries in Macau offering authentic Portuguese cuisine that we have yet to try.
