Dinner at WA Cafe 渡邊咖啡店 @Chinatown Point

Have walked pass this restaurant numerous times whenever I go to Chinatown Point. It is the first eatery you'll see after getting out of the MRT station at Basement 1. Finally the opportunity to dine came when my friend asked for recommendation on where to eat for her birthday dinner. I suggested WA Cafe since she likes Japanese and this place offers French Japanese cuisine similar to Hoshino Coffee and Miam Miam.

We ordered one main course each, two appetizers and a photo worthy Blend Coffee set $7.80++ (L) to share. There is also options to top up for main dish to make it a set meal with soup, salad and beverage.

I had the Iberico Pork Katsu Curry Rice $26.80++, it tasted alright but the pork cutlet was a tad hard to chew. The Truffle Fries $10.80++ was pretty good, they were generous with the truffle salt. The Ogura Toast $6.80++ on the other hand doesn't leave much of an impression.

Other main dishes my friends had were Baked Rice w/ Hamburg Steak $20.80++, Chicken Curry Rice w/ Omelette $16.80++ and Japanese Hamburg Steak w/ Demi Glace Sauce $19.80++. No complains heard from them so I figured they were satisfied with their choices.

The restaurant has a policy that no outside cake can be consumed on their premise so we had to order a slice cake from them for our birthday girl (note - candle & tag supplied by me). The Fruit Roll Cake $8.20++ was tasty though.

Our overall dining experience here was good, everything from food to service was within expectations, no more no less. With many similar dining concepts out there, we probably wouldn't be back here in a heartbeat, but at the same time wouldn't discount the possibility of a return visit in the future.

Since the restaurant forbid consumption of outside cakes, I brought these yummies back home to eat with hubby. They were from Châteraisé Japan 💗💗💗

9狗不理 9Goubuli Restaurant @MBS

Hail from China, this eatery is the 9th outlet of the Goubuli restaurant chain. Serving up well known Goubuli Buns and many signature Chinese dishes from various parts of China. We had our pre-show dinner here since it seems rather empty at 7pm.

We ordered 2 Goubuli buns, 3 appetizers, 1 fried rice and a soup to share between two pax. Food was extremely ordinary, even the signature buns had no wow factor. The buns were very tiny and had little fillings inside 😒😒 Try once is enough, no need to come back again.

Goubuli Buns - Pork $2.60++ & Pork w/ seafood $3++

Chicken w/ szechuan chili $14.80++

Tofu w/ century egg $8.50++

Bamboo shoot w/ crabmeat $10.50++

Yang chow fried rice $20++

To be fair, the Teapot soup $14++ was nice albeit smallish in serving.

We regretted having dinner here, food was uninspiring and way too over priced. Will not recommend any Singaporean to patronise as our local food is much nicer and way cheaper.

My New Toy 1/2 - Lenovo IdeaPad 710s

Gonna ditch my HORRIBLE 4yr old Samsung lappy cos it has been having CPU overheating issues for years. Since day 1 it was a nightmare to use, within first year warranty period, I had sent it to service center twice (replaced HDD & Motherboard). And after seeing news of exploding Note7s and Samsung washing machine going up in flames, I decided not to have it explode in my face!

Sky High Tea at SKY on 57 @Marina Bay Sands

It's been a while since we last enjoyed a leisurely afternoon sipping tea and watching the world goes by. This time around, we decided to try the Sky High Tea from SKY on 57 at MBS.

Located on level 57, the restaurant boasts a stunning view of the Marina Bay area.

The entire restaurant has full length glass windows show casing the priceless views from day to night. Interior decor is kept simple so patrons can concentrate on the food.

Table setting with elegant tableware, and cutlery with east meet west fusion theme.

The Sky High Tea is $39++ per pax, consists of Chef Justin Quek's signature Truffle Xiao Long Bao, Sweet and Savory finger food and Premium tea from Newby of London.

The starters, crispy mushroom bites and mushroom soup in espresso cups. The Foie Gras Xiao Long Bao was expertly made with truffle infused soup sealed within each individual baos. Thumbs up.

Then the 3-tier sweet and savory goodies arrived. There were 10 items in total, 3 savories and 7 sweets. The serving staff didn't give any description of the food, so we explored them on our own.

The savory items were delicious. The egg mayo bread roll had hints of truffle oil in it. Salad prawn on bread with flying fish roe and Mango salsa wrap all tasted wonderful.

The sweets items were more of a hits and misses affair, with the Pandan Gula Melaka Macarons outshining the rest. The scones with fruit jam was very dry, the creme brulee was alright, the rest was quite forgettable.

Last but not least, Milo ice cream was served to end the meal on a sweet note. This was pretty good, it has crunchy bits within that added extra texture to the dessert.

Our dining experience was nice overall, the food turned out to be better than expected (reviews we read online wasn't so positive). The price is in line with other restaurants of the same grade. We have no complains on the service and adored the restaurant's breathtaking ocean view. So it's all good.
